One Year
One year done! Don’t blink! There are many more years ahead that I’m sure will be filled with milestone big and small that will add up to one great little life. We still to this day get complements from complete strangers on how cute, sweet, or just well behaved Cameron is when we are out and about. And we also spend a lot of time at home just watch him play and interact with the world around him, especially when he is playing with his toys while talking to himself and trying to fit things together.
August 9, 2013:
12 Month Stats (as of 8/14/13):
Weight: 24 pounds 15.8 ounces (79th percentile). That’s up 15 pounds 7 ounces since birth.
Height: 30 Inches (56th percentile). That’s up 8 ½ inches since he was born.
New Skills:
-Walking without assistance. He now can take independent steps both after using furniture to pull himself up or even just standing up on his own from a seated position. He is still a bit wobbly, but making progress.
-Feeding himself is one of his favorite things. He loves to just dive on in there, but I try to only give him a few things at a time because he loves to grab handfuls and shove them into his face.
-He’s also mastered dismounting from the couch without any trauma. He learned how to roll onto his belly and put his feet down first, and now that he is taller it makes it much easier.
-Stairs are also still a big fascination including wanting to try to climb like mommy or daddy, but obviously he’s not ready yet. We are sure to keep the gate closed, otherwise he makes a dash for the stairs squealing with excitement when he gets to climb up.
Big Events:
The biggest event this month was definitely turning 1! Mom and dad put lots of time into making sure we threw a big celebration that required that some house/lawn projects done. The theme of the party was the Circus with plenty of fun planned into a day of celebration with family and friends. Even our neighbors pitched in loaning us chairs, tables and other useful items to make the day successful. More to come in another post!
“A Day in my Life” – 8/9/2013
7:00am: Mommy wakes me up today with a Happy Birthday song, but I was really looking forward to sleeping in on my birthday. She says we have to go to the doctors to get my ears checked again, so she quickly changes me into my birthday shirt and then gives me my bottle.
7:55am: We arrive at the doctors with a few minutes to spare, and luckily since we are an early appointment it isn’t too bad of a wait. I play with some toys and watch two brothers who are causing trouble in the waiting room.
8:15am: We get the all clear from the doctor! My ears and tubes looks great so I won’t have to go back for another six months, I think mom is relieved. She loads me back into my car seat and tells me we need to run some errands to get some stuff for my birthday party. Unfortunately the stores don’t open until 9 and I’m tired so I fall asleep in the car until mom says it is time to go.
10:30am: Mom says we are done with our errands and we head back him just in time for a snack! But then mom gets a call from G&G Fillmore saying they want to meet for an early lunch 11:30am, so we head home and kill some time before meeting everyone.
11:30am: G&G Fillmore and Uncle Jay meet us for lunch and even daddy made it too! We all enjoy a nice lunch together, and I make sure to get some of everything.
12:30pm: Daddy heads back to work, and the rest of us head to the house. I’m pretty tired so mom puts me to bed in my crib.
2:00pm: When I wake up Grandma gives me a bottle because mom is busy, busy, busy in the kitchen. Preparation for my birthday celebration have started and I pretty much only see mommy if I go into the kitchen or if she passes through the living room to get something. I guess this is going to be quite a celebration!
2:30pm to 6:00pm: I just play, talk, work on walking, swing on the swing set, or climb the slide. Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Jay seems to be the ones to report to since mom and dad are busy working on last minute items.
6:30pm: Dinner time! To save sometime we order pizza and enjoy it outside at the table. The yard is shaping up nice and dad’s nearly finished the deck/stairs, and I smell good things come along in the kitchen- progress!
7:00pm: Mom and dad get back to work so Grandma gets me into a bath. After bath time I play with Uncle Jay he pretends he is a monster, and I just laugh the whole time. Around 8:30 mom brings me my bottle, and Grandma feeds me.
9:00pm: Grandma thinks that I fell asleep while eating, but as soon as the bottle is finished my eyes pop open and I’m awake. Though once mom hears me from the kitchen, so quickly puts an end to the fun and tells Grandma it’s time for me to sleep since I didn’t do too much napping and I have a big day coming.
9:15pm: Tucked into bed and fast asleep without too much fuss. Mommy knows best…or at least that is what she says.
Thanks for following along with my monthly “Day in the Life” series this last year. As you can see I went from a little, cuddly bundle that slept and ate all day to a growing, active little man that likes to eat and play all day. It’s been quite a journey and now that I’m doing so much more I might only check in on occasion, but don’t forget about me because there is lots more to come!
